Planet Innovation has partnered with Truvian, a healthcare company at the intersection of diagnostics and consumer technology, to develop a new point-of-care blood testing device to make routine health tests more convenient, affordable, and actionable for consumers.
Designed for use in retail or clinics, Truvian’s automated, benchtop system will produce lab-accurate results for a full suite of health tests in 20 minutes, using only a small sample of blood. The wellness panel will cover 40 of the most common blood tests, including basic and advanced nutrients, complete blood count, thyroid and blood sugar, cholesterol and liver and kidney levels. Results will be delivered to the healthcare provider through a secure digital platform, allowing them to give results to patients on the spot.
Developed at PI’s Carlsbad Manufacturing Support Facility, the team has delivered the first fleet of beta units to Truvian, which is using the platforms for system integration and further assay development.
Anthony White, President PI North America, said the relationship between PI and Truvian is a true collaboration, with both teams working closely to make Truvian’s vision a reality.
“PI is 100% behind Truvian’s vision to make routine health testing more accessible and affordable,” Anthony said.
“The combined Truvian and PI team brings together a proven track record in commercializing healthcare and diagnostic devices. We are committed to supporting Jeff and the Truvian team as they progress development and build the future of healthcare testing.”
Jeff Hawkins, President and Chief Executive Officer at Truvian, said the San Diego-based company’s aim is to give people immediate access to insights to inform their healthcare decisions.
“When we were evaluating potential partners to play a pivotal role of bringing our vision to life, PI’s deep experience in point-of-care diagnostics stood out,” Jeff said.
“We needed a partner with the skills, experience and rigor to help us deliver this transformational platform to market, and PI has been an essential partner every step of the way.”
Truvian, which has so far raised $46.3 million from investors, is backed by a team made up of scientists and business leaders with a proven track record of success in healthcare, diagnostics, and consumer technology.
