Keeping PI COVID safe with SteraMist

Planet Innovation is using SteraMist® to disinfect its office and manufacturing premises as part of a range of measures to protect onsite manufacturing staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

SteraMist, a TOMI Environmental Solutions product, is a hydrogen peroxide-based mist that is used worldwide for decontamination and infectious disease control, including for COVID-19.

PI is using the handheld, point-and-spray SteraMist Surface Unit to deep clean shared spaces and common touch points at its Melbourne office and manufacturing facilities.

PI’s co-CEO and co-founder Stuart Elliott said SteraMist was one of a range of hygiene and safety measures in place as part of its COVID Safe Plan.

“While the vast majority of PI staff have been working from home since March, the manufacturing team needs to be onsite to assemble products. Their health and safety is our top priority, so we’re taking every step to ensure the work environment is safe,” Stuart said.

PI manufactures SteraMist products in Melbourne

Planet Innovation is manufacturing the SteraMist products at its Melbourne manufacturing facility after winning the global manufacturing contract earlier this year.

U.S.-based TOMI engaged PI as a second source supplier to help meet global demand and boost its global supply chain resilience.

PI is manufacturing the portable SteraMist Surface Unit, as well as the SteraMist Environment System, an automated complete room fogging decontamination system.

What is SteraMist and where can it be used?

SteraMist is a hydrogen peroxide-based mist and fog that kills bacteria and fungal spores, and deactivates viral cells. It has a 6-log (99.9999%) or higher kill rate on many pathogens.

It is suitable for use in a wide range of environments including hospitals, medical clinics, schools, public transport, factories, labs and many more.

It can be used on all surfaces, as well as fabrics and electronics. With a quick drying time, SteraMist does not require wiping or rinsing, and leaves no residue.

How does SteraMist work?

SteraMist uses a patented Binary Ionization Technology (BIT) solution to activate ionized Hydrogen Peroxide (iHP). This creates a fine fog or mist containing a high concentration of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), which damages pathogenic organisms through oxidation of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids. This leads to cellular disruption and/or dysfunction and allows for disinfection/decontamination in targeted areas and large spaces.
