Medical device innovator Epiminder has teamed up with Planet Innovation’s (PI) Digital team to develop software for its epilepsy monitoring device under development.
Epiminder is developing an ultra-long term ambulatory electroencephalography (EEG) implant that aims to revolutionize the lives of millions of people suffering epilepsy, by monitoring seizures. The system is currently under investigation in clinical trials in Australia.
The system consists of an implant, a wearable, a patient App and Cloud-based software.
PI is using its proven end-to-end product development process for software as a medical device to develop and verify a compliant mobile application and cloud-based software that will connect to the wearable.
The User Journey Mapping and Story Mapping sessions have been two critical components of this process; enabling PI to identify and focus on user needs and knowledge gaps, rather than product features.
Commenting on the partnership, Epiminder chief executive officer, Rohan Hoare, said, “Working with PI’s Digital team has allowed us to really define and align the future of our digital products.
“The team at PI have capabilities that extend far beyond software development, and we are impressed by the breadth and synergies of PI’s teams, particularly digital and product design.
“Partnering with PI gives us the chance to create not only a better product, but the opportunity to improve the lives of epilepsy sufferers across the globe,” he said.
Clinical trials are currently underway in hospitals across Australia including the Austin, Alfred, Mater, Westmead and St Vincent’s Hospitals.
